Yellow locust is a native hardwood in Eastern North America, particularly prevalent in the Black Mountain Range in North Carolina. It has been used for centuries for fencing, for bridges, for general construction. The major advantage of yellow locust is that it is resistant to rot and insects. The classic split rail fence is made from locust. Many of these fences have lasted for hundreds of years.
Please scroll through these photos to see how a locust fence, either post and rail, or stacked can be constructed. They may be used as decorative or functional fences.
